In what’s being called the most complex catfishing on record, 42-year-old Kirat Assi is telling her story on a podcast called Sweet Bobby. She “met” Bobby online in a private group with 50 people inside, all of whom were Bobby’s friends and family, and they developed a relationship over 10 years. There was always something keeping them from meeting in real life, including Bobby suffering a heart attack.
Assi became suspicious enough to hire a private detective to investigate, and found out that Bobby and all 50 of the people in the group had been made up by her younger cousin, Simran Bhogal, who had kept the entire thing going for a decade. Bhogal settled out of court after a civil lawsuit, and Assi is using her story to bring more attention to catfishing.
