It’s almost a given that if your search settings include men, you’re bound to come across a guy holding a fish in his profile picture on any dating app, in any location. Yes, women do it, too…but the fish pics are mostly dominated by straight men.
So what the heck goes through a guy's mind when he uploads a picture of himself holding a fish? Does he really think it’s gonna land him a date? According toThe List, it may have something to do with them trying to fit into traditional gender roles.
- Men are supposed to be “rugged” and they’re trying to appear this way to attract women.
- Not that women don’t or can’t fish, but it tends to be more of a masculine activity. They’re trying to prove they’re into these types of heterosexual male things.
Other reasons, according to men themselves:
- “I think the fish looks really nice."
- "By comparison, the fish makes me look better-looking.”
- "Some of us actually have career ambitions to be fishermen."
- “Our fish pics are the equivalent to your 'drinks with the girlies.'"
