10% of Us Have Injured Ourselves Setting Up a Christmas Tree

When we saw this stat, we had a gut feeling that BOOZE had something to do with it. Turns out that instinct was correct . . .

A new survey found 10% of Americans have injured themselves while setting up a Christmas tree. And it's partly because a lot of us do it DRUNK.

18% said they've set their tree up or decorated it while intoxicated. So just under one in five people. (The same survey last year found 20% of us have injured ourselves, but the pandemic may have skewed the numbers somehow. In 2019, it was 9%.)

Here are a few more stats on Christmas tree hazards . . .

1. Younger adults are more likely to say they've hurt themselves setting up their tree. 22% of Gen Zers said yes, compared to 12% of Millennials . . . 5% of Gen Xers . . . and 3% of Baby Boomers.

2. Men are almost twice as likely to admit they've set up a tree while drunk. 25% of men and 13% of women have.

3. 72% of pet owners say their pets have knocked their tree down or ripped off ornaments before.

4. 68% of us have left our tree lights on overnight, which can be a fire hazard, especially if they're old. 5% of people who set up a tree this year have lights that are over 10 years old. Another 11% don't know how old their lights are.
