"Pocketing" Your S/O On Social Media Is Super Common

If you’re in a serious relationship and your partner isn’t posting about you, you aren’t wrong for questioning why… in fact, you probably should be questioning it! You could be getting “pocketed.”

“Pocketing” is “when one person doesn’t acknowledge or post their boyfriend or girlfriend on their social media," according to self-proclaimed dating expert Justin Sylvester. Pocketing someone on social media is basically another way of not introducing someone to your friends, co-workers, or family. It’s sort of also like..if social media never saw it, then did it really even happen?

Some couples just like to keep their business private. While no one is suggesting you exploit your relationship on Facebook, being in a serious relationship with someone without posting not even ONE story is actually considered to be “something hurtful against your partner,” says relationship expert, Susan Winter.

"You can’t have it both ways. You can’t get the best of us in private and then hide us from the public. It makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them, or that they’re inferior or inadequate and nobody wants to feel that way," she says.
