Internet and phone scams have become so common nowadays. But scams on dating apps? Yup, it’s a thing too. As if you didn’t have enough to worry about on dating apps, now there’s this.
According to the FBI, dating app fraud has resulted in more than $133 million in losses. They have also received more than 1,800 complaints about dating app fraudsters. Authorities are saying these scammers are using dating apps as well as social media to gain the trust of the person, making it easier to scam them.
One common dating app scam is that fraudsters are saying they have good knowledge of cryptocurrency investment. Once they have you fooled, they’ll direct you to a fake app or website.
The good news is there are actions you can take in order to not be scammed. Never send money on dating apps (or social media in general), do not share your bank details with someone you have never met, and do not trust a dating prospect if they are trying to lead you to crypto investment or any similar type of trading activities.
