Ask any worker and they’ll tell you burnout is real, and while most employees usually suffer, or take some PTO to recover, one company has taken a bold step to help their workers recover.
Dating app Bumble has decided to give their entire workforce of over 700 employees in Texas, London, Sydney and more this week off in order to combat “collective burnout” from the pandemic. The company noted the move was “a way to thank our team for their hard work and resilience.”
"As vaccination rates increase and restrictions ease, we wanted to give our global teams a paid week off to rest and refresh after what’s been an incredibly challenging time for everyone,” a Bumble spokesperson said in an email to NBC News. The Austin, Texas-based company is now shut down for the week, and won’t reopen until June 28th.
The plan was first announced to employees back in April, but is in the news again after several Bumble employees took to social media to cheer the move.
“(founder an CEO) Whitney Wolfe Herd gave all 700ish of us a paid week off, having correctly intuited our collective burnout,”Clare O’Connor, Bumble’s head of editorial content, tweeted. “In the U.S. especially, where vacation days are notoriously scarce, it feels like a big deal.”That’s because it is!
