How To Improve Your Dating App Profile For Summer!

After more than a year of Zoom dates and socially-distant meet-ups, they’re calling for this to be the hot vax summer so the question is … is your dating app profile ready? The pictures and words you choose are the first impression potential matches see, so you really want to nail it.Dating experts share their best tips to optimize your profile to get more quality dates.

  • Do: Take full-body profile photos- Like it or not, the photos you choose are the most important part of the profile, according to the experts. Relationship coach Rachel DeAlto says five to seven images is best, with the full-body shot being most important so people can see your overall appearance.
  • Don’t: Use photos with your friends in them- Group photos can be confusing since a prospective date may have trouble identifying which person you are. Also, don’t use bathroom mirror shots that may show the toilet seat or personal items in the background.
  • Do: Lead with positivity- Even if you’re nervous or skeptical about online dating, be as positive as possible, including leading with things you enjoy or look for in a partner, rather than things you don’t like.
  • Don’t: have too many dealbreakers in your profile- Being too picky can sabotage your profile. DeAlto only allows her clients to have four non-negotiables and they can’t be physical, only values and things like non-smokers only.
  • Don’t: use “travel” as a hobby-Veteran dating app ghost writer Meredith Golden says for every 100 clients, 99 tell her they love to travel.
  • Do: Start a conversation with a match as soon as it happens- Don’t play hard-to-get and wait for your match to make the first move. Coffee Meets Bagel cofounder and CEO Dawoon Kang says, “Our research has shown within three hours of matching, you’re 52% more likely to get a response from the other person than if you respond later.”
  • Don’t: Worry about listing your vaccination status- Golden recommends not wasting space in your bio that could be used for fun facts about you and more interesting conversation starters.
