We’re just about to head into hot vax summer and singles are starting to get their dating sealegs back underneath them. But since nothing can ever be easy… here comes another toxic AF dating trend to look out for. According to Metro, this will be the year of the “seagulls. ”And no this is not a new astrology thing.
Seagulling is when you start dating someone, realize you don’t want them, but then won’t allow this other person to move on. Remember the seagulls from “Finding Nemo.” It’s like the ‘mine! mine! mine! ’scene but with adults instead of animated birds. Basically, it’s the old adage ‘I don’t want you but I don’t want anyone else to have you.’
This year’s particularly ripe for seagulling because of how relationships have formed. Tess Leigh-Phillips of Your Happy Heart Coachsays daters have formed relationships “under pressured circumstances” and now that the “end of the tunnel is near, these relationships will lose intensity, and fall away.” But that doesn’t mean people are ready to let go of their quaranfling completely. And they might even be clingy or petty enough to stop someone from loving someone else.
