Atlanta Girl Scouts Stuck With $3 Million In Unsold Cookies

The last year has been “unusual,” to say the least. Need proof? A warehouse in Georgia has nearly $3-million worth of Girl Scout cookies...just sitting there! Typically, Metro Atlanta Girl Scouts would have blown through all their inventory after setting up cookie booths at malls and grocery stores, but this year? They’ve got something unusual at the end of cookie-selling season – leftover boxes.

The pandemic forced a change in the way the Girl Scouts did their cookie biz. Instead of going door-to-door or spending weekends at cookie booths, they did what so many other things had to do - go virtual. But without all the foot traffic, sales are down and these Atlanta area troops are stuck with 720-thousand unsold boxes of cookies! And according to a Girl Scouts USA spokesperson, this is a reality troops across the country are dealing with.

The good news? They’ve extended cookie season to the end of April, so there’s still time to sell the leftover boxes (that don’t expire until September). Folks in the Atlanta area are encouraged to visit ShowMeTheCookies.com to place an order for themselves or to donate to teachers, first responders, health care workers, or any group they want to treat. As for leftover boxes that aren’t sold, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta will send those to their military partners in the U.S. and overseas.
