Courtney Wilson and Shenita Jones were ready to walk down the aisle and invited friends and family to their “dream home and estate” for their weekend wedding celebration. They planned a red carpet cocktail party, ceremony and reception for Saturday and a brunch for the next day at an estate in Southwest Ranches, Florida. But there was just one problem: the couple doesn’t own the mansion and didn’t have permission to use it either!
So when Wilson showed up that Saturday morning to start setting up for the big event, he was met by the actual owner of the estate, Nathan Finkel, who was stunned. He immediately called police to report people trespassing and harassing him. “They say they’re having a wedding here and it’s God’s message,” Finkel told the 911 dispatcher. “I don’t know what’s going on. All I want is for it to stop.” Officers showed up and told Wilson he had to leave, and he did, so no charges were filed.
But how did this happen in the first place? The mansion - which includes a bowling alley, a pool with a waterfall and an 800-foot bar - is for sale, listed for just over $5-million and Wilson toured it several months ago, posing as a potential buyer. He later asked Finkel for permission to have his wedding there and was denied, but he didn’t let that stop them from sending out elaborate invitations to loved ones for their dream wedding there. Keith Poliakoff, an attorney for Finkel, says Wilson must not have realized the owner lived on the property and thought the house was vacant, so they could pull it off.
