On Thursday severe storms swept through the south, leading to a tornado watch for much of the Atlanta metro area, and tornado warnings throughout northwest Georgia. On early Friday morning, after a dangerous tornado was on the ground heading from Heard County into Coweta County, the National Weather Service issued a 'special tornado emergency'.
First responders and crews are out clearing the roads, and urging people to stay off of them because they are dangerous. The extensive damage in Coweta lead to the school district to close schools on Friday. Thousands are without power, and many roads are closed due to debris and downed power lines.
According to officials, there are no major injuries being reported.
