Most Americans Have Lied About How Much We Like A Gift

Most of us have gotten a holiday gift that we just don’t like. A new survey reveals how we treat those gifts. Wright Brand Bacon thought it would be fun to see what happens with those sometime hideous gift choices. They linger… that’s what happens in the end.

Instead of pitching them, we admit to keeping them for about four years until they’re disposed of.Four years! Why? So as not to offend. Here’s what happens during those four long years:

  • When we get the gift, 62-percent of us lie about how much we like it.
  • 52-percent go the extra mile and display it when the gift giver visits
  • Some people hide the gift for years before that visit
  • Favorite places to hide unwanted gifts include the closet, the basement, and the attic
  • After getting an awful gift, the average person gets stuck in a terrible gifting pattern. Some for over 10 years!

More stats in the awful gifting department include:

  • The worst bad gift offenders are: grandmothers (18-percent), children, and grandfathers (tied at 17-percent)
  • The least liked gifts are: ugly sweaters (41-percent), ties (27-percent), mugs (26-percent), and scarves (26-percent)
  • 43-percent think they get bad gifts because they give bad gifts
  • Most believe the best gift to give someone is a present in line with their interests
