These Are The Holidays Where Your Car Is Most Likely To Get Stolen

Holidays are a time for joy and celebrating so the last thing on people’s minds is crime, but bad things do happen on holidays, and that includes cars being stolen. But it turns out, there are some holidays where you’re more likely to get your car lifted than others.

  • According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau last year there were 22,743 cars stolen on the 11 major holidays studied.
  • The good news is you likely won’t have to worry about your car getting stolen on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
  • In fact, the least amount of cars were stolen on Christmas Day last year (1,580), with only slightly more taken on Thanksgiving (1,683).
  • You do need to worry about New Year’s Day though, with the most cars stolen just as folks ring in the New Year (2,320).

    • Presidents Day (2,204)
    • New Year's Eve (2,201)
    • Halloween (2,191)
    • Valentine's Day (2,174)

  • As forwherecars are most likely to get stolen on a holiday, the Top Five states are:
    • California
    • Texas
    • Florida
    • Georgia
    • Washington
  • Florida had the most New Year’s Day thefts last year.
  • Californians saw the most stolen cars on President’s Day
  • Texas and Washington had the most cars stolen on New Year’s Eve
  • Georgia had the most cars taken on Memorial Day.
