If you’re serious about losing weight, it’s time to hit unfollow on that doughnut shop on Instagram and start following some people that are serious about eating well. According to new research, we eat like the content we consume.
The study showed people who follow healthy eaters on social media were more likely to eat healthy themselves. It works the other way too. If your friends are always snapping pics of burgers, fries, and junk food, you’ll be more likely to follow suit.
And to put that into terms of apples and oranges, the research found participants would eat an extra fifth of a portion of fruit and vegetables for every serving they thought their friends were eating.This means we must have some really unhealthy friends because recent surveys showed only 28% of adults were eating the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day.
So even though that double cheese bacon whatever you’re eating looks good enough to post, you might want to skip it for your friends’ health. The study showed if social media users thought their friends were eating junk food, they’d up their junk intake by a third.Stop posting eggplant emojis and start posting more eggplants!
