Millennials Are Leading The Library Renaissance

Librarians are Making Shush Great Again, and they have millennials to thank for that. A new poll found people spent more of their free time in the library last year than they did seeing movies, sports, live music or going to museums.Books are back and we like them touched by hundreds of strangers.

The survey says the average American visited the library about once a month. By comparison, the people only went to about five movies total last year. And get this: it’s young people that are driving the numbers way up. Why? The study attributed it to college students spending a lot of time studying there and also to us being poor.

As a rule, libraries are frequented most by “low-income households” and besides the obvious of books, movies, and other stuff being free, they also have tons of community services and WIFI. Combine that with the fact that everything else costs half your paycheck to go to, the library might be the new hottest place in town to pick up a hot, literate millennial.
