Most Americans Rarely Delete Files Off Their Devices

It’s no secret that folks are constantly taking pictures on their Smartphones, and it could be anything from a great selfie, to the lunch they just ate. And it seems no matter how random or strange a picture may be, most people probably won’t ever delete them from their device.

A new poll finds:

  • 52% of people have never deleted anything from their devices.
  • 33% of folks have files in their devices that are at least 10 years old.
  • 41%of people say they actively avoid deleting pictures and videos from their devices.
  • 78% are simply transferring files from one device to another.
  • A fourth of America’s data is holding old stuff.
  • While 60% of people say they have considered going through their device to delete things, most still can’t do it.
  • 24% of people admit they’d be embarrassed if someone looked through the files stored on their devices.

So, why aren’t people deleting old files from their devices? Well, the top reason is that people are simply worried they’ll need those files in the future (39%). Other reasons include:

  • They are memories that can never be deleted (35%)
  • It’s a chore or it’s boring (32%)
  • Feel bad deleting old files (26%)
