The Common, But Also Really Bad, New Year’s Resolutions

We’re nine days into 2020. How’s that New Year’s resolution coming?

To everyone that said to themselves “not great” here’s some good news. You’ve got company. A recent study showed 29% of people fall off the wagon only a week into the New Year and 36% tap out after a month. And come June, more than half of us will be left thinking “maybe next year.”

Are we to blame? Yes, but it’s not because we’re hopeless. We just stink at making resolutions. For example, here are some of the most common resolutions and why they’re the worst.

  • Set goals. What does that even mean? That’s basically like writing TBD on your resolution space. Try being specific instead of vague this year. The same goes for all you “be kind” or “be better” people.
  • Improve your health. How? What is the benchmark for health? How about instead of saying this meaningless nonsense you get specific and say “I will actually use my calorie counter app for everything and stop cheating.”
  • Have more sex, get a bae, or get married. Is it really your resolution if you need another person to fulfill it? We shouldn’t be making resolutions that are beyond our control. How about you try “I will loosen my strict dating checklist” this year and see how that goes.
  • Get Ripped.Lower your expectations in the gym. You’re not going to win a triathlon this year. You might complete one though. And that’s still much better than your normal triathlon of switching between Netflix, Hulu, and Spotify.A little modesty goes a long way.
  • What you resolved to do last year or the year before that.No one said to quit, but come on. If you’ve been recycling the same resolution it’s time to find one in this decade that’ll actually work for you.

Check out the full list of all too common, and all too bad resolutions HERE. Remember, the key to a great resolution is to get specific and to be reasonable.
