Goodbye, Big Apple and hello culdesac! Contrary to what you have heard, millennials aren’t just a city-dwelling species. Much like our parents, we’re rocking the suburbs!
Between 2017 and 2018, suburbs grew twice as fast as their inner-city counterparts and that trend is expected to continue this year. But we aren’t just trading our apartments and subway cards for a house and a minivan. We’ve still got some cool left in us!
As we’re moving into the suburbs we’re dragging our favorite parts of city living with us. So welcome to “hipsturbia.” Small town living with big city accessories. We’re looking for walkable town centers with wide sidewalks and restaurants, shops, apartments, and offices on the same block. And don’t be afraid to skimp on the parking because we’re still down to Uber.
Sorry Boomers. Forward-thinking town developers are embracing our patented millennial entitlement and listening to us. Take Alpharetta for example. They’re a suburb about 23 miles away from Atlanta that just spent $29 million transforming 26 acres of their downtown city center to include 2.5 acres of parks, 45k square feet of shops and restaurants, and nearly 170 luxury apartments.Thirsty for millennials much?
The only way they could have made it more obvious they’re trying to attract our generation would be to hide student loan repayments all over town.
The suburban renaissance is here and you can thank us later America.I hope you don’t mind if our kombucha brewery takes over that space from the abandoned Kmart.
