Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it’s hard to step into Target, Walmart, or any store without the kids wanting every toy on display. But one mom in Washington state figures out an easy way to get her daughter to stop begging for toys and she shared the"hack"on Facebook so it could make life easier for other parents out there this time of year.
Kristina Watts posted that her daughter Emerson used to beg for toys during the holidays, but now her “most amazing parenting hack ever” has made their shopping trips a lot less “painful.” So what’s her secret? When her kid asks for something, she snaps a photo and says “let’s send it to Santa so he knows you want it.”
The mom says just acknowledging her kid’s over-the-top excitement in the moment, instead of telling her “no” really helps diffuse things. She says her daughter smiles for the picture, puts the toy down without a meltdown and happily walks away. Watts points out it could work with Grandma or anyone’s name instead of Santa’s and it can be a different person every time. And If it means fewer tantrums - from the kids or from us - we’ll try it.
