Now that it’s officially fall, the cold weather will soon be upon us and that affects our lives in lots of ways, including, apparently, dating.
A new report by Dating.com finds that online dating sees a major spike during cold weather months. It’s likely because folks are going out less, which means they have less of a chance of meeting folks in person. In fact, the survey notes that 67% of people say the cold weather makes them less likely to attend a social gathering, with more men than women staying home during colder months (88%. vs 70%).
For this reason, 55% of those surveyed say they are more likely to try online dating during the cold weather months, with Dating.com seeing a 30% increase in use between November and February.
And being indoors too much can definitely lead to a lot of loneliness, which is another reason folks look for love online. Overall, 75% of people say they felt isolated during the winter, with 69% saying they felt less alone after finding a potential match online.
