Dealing with a dry spell in your sex life is never fun, but when you’re in a sex rut while in a relationship it can be even more frustrating and they even have a special name for it: a “dead bedroom” relationship. It describes being in a sexless relationship for an extended period of time, as in months or even years. And believe it or not, it’s super common.
In a recent survey of 1,000 adults by BodyLogicMD, 51% of respondents report being in a dry spell that ended within a year and 39% report theirs lasted between one and five years. That’s five years of not having sex and that’s a REALLY long time. But maybe even more surprising? The reasons people give for getting into a dead bedroom situation.
According to the survey, stress at work tops the list for sex drought causes (51%), followed by weight gain (46%). Landing in the number three spot is a lack of communication (41%), but really, if you work on that last one, it’ll help the top two problems as well. Talking to your partner can put things in perspective and maybe get you out of that dead bedroom once and for all.
