When you’ve swiped right so many times that it feels wrong, you may be ready to stop looking for love online. And remember, there are still plenty of no- and low-tech ways to meet people IRL. Not sure where to start? Here’s what matchmakers, relationship gurus, lifestyle coaches and real single women suggest for getting out of the dating-app trap.
- Delete, delete, delete- You’ll be less tempted if you can’t access your favorite apps and having to download them again will make you think twice.
- Live your online profile- Instead of spending time making a list for your profile of what you like to do, get out and enjoy a bike ride or a poetry slam, or whatever you’re into and you just might meet someone else who likes that stuff too.
- Get out of your comfort zone- Shake up your same old routine with the same people and you’ll broaden your horizons and your circle at the same time.
- Be that person- As in the one who strikes up a conversation in line at Starbucks or on a flight. Basically, put yourself out there, wherever you are.
- Create dating karma- If you’ve gone out with someone who’s great, just not for you, connect them with someone else and let it help your dating karma.
- Hit up human matchmakers- “Ask to be added to their free database,” says matchmaker and dating coach Karenna Alexander. “You never know when they’ll sign up a client who wants someone just like you.”
- Remember the downside of dating apps- Remind yourself about catfishing, ghosting, lying, not meeting good people and all the other reasons you quit online dating when you feel like going back to the apps.
