A bride-to-be has taken to Reddit to see if she’s out of line for being upset that her mother plans to wear a dress similar to her bridesmaids’ dresses to the wedding. She says she just saw the dress her mom bought to wear and that it looks nearly identical to the navy dresses she chose for her wedding party and asked Reddit if she’s being a “bridezilla” for being bothered by it.
The bride picked out an inexpensive, more casual dress for her bridesmaids on Amazon to save money ahead of the ceremony and the only real difference between those and the gown her mom chose is the price tag. Mom’s frock is $179, and the bridesmaids dresses are only $34. She says her mom wore a “standard mother-of-the-bride dress to her sister’s wedding and when she asked her to go with something similar for her nuptials, mom said she “felt like a sack” in it. The bride-to-be even offered to buy her mother another dress, but she got defensive, so she dropped it.
“AITA (Am I the a**hole) to ask my mom to wear something a little more classic for a mother of the bride,” she asks Reddit. “Or am I being a bridezilla and need to relax and let my mom enjoy herself?”
Many folks responded that she was being “very bridezilla-ish” and pointed out that maybe she’s being unfair about her expectations. Others reminded her that there’s much more to a wedding than what outfits are worn and one told her to take a step back and remember “what really matters.” But some agree that it’s her wedding and she gets to call the shots, so her mom “should be willing to make accommodations.”
