Survey Reveals Biggest Online Dating Turn-Offs

When we date, we want to show the best parts of ourselves and that’s especially important on dating apps. One of the hardest parts of online dating is nailing your bio, but a new survey from the U.K. offers some insight about the best things to include in your dating profile and what to avoid.

UK phone retailer Carphone Warehouse and celebrity dating coachJames Preece asked 1,000 Brits about what raises a red flag and what they find attractive in someone’s dating profile and their answers could help us out. For starters, humor goes a long way and more than half (51%) say it’s a turn-on to see people making jokes or being sarcastic in their bios. But dirty jokes are a don’t, with 68% saying they’re turned off by them. And if you’re into using emojis, you may want to reconsider because 80% of those surveyed say they don’t like it.

When it comes to pictures, pretty much everyone expects to see some and 93% of respondents say they’ll straight up ignore someone on a dating app who’s profile doesn’t have photos. People want to know what a potential date looks like, so don’t use a filter like the flower crown or dog tongue and don’t pout, because 87% find both of those a turn off.

Some life choices are less attractive as well and smoking is the most undesirable habit with 43% voting it as a top no-go. Other undesirable qualities include being obsessed with the gym (38%), being prudish (33%), and three in 10 singles don’t want a prospective date who’s vegan. Of course, you’re not going to change your meatless diet just to win over a date on an app, but you may want to cut back on those emojis.
