First Responders Pay For Hotel For Disabled, Homeless Woman

A crew of first responders in Florida were called to help a homeless woman complaining about foot pain at 2 a.m., but instead of taking her to the hospital, they went above and beyond to help her. The trio from Fire Station 37 in Lauderdale Lakes found the woman with her dog out in the rain in the middle of the night and crew member Daniel Rodriguez says she had more than 10 bags and boxes of personal belongings with her. After talking to her for a while, they learned she recently lost her mother, whom she had been taking care of full-time, and had been evicted.’

With a dog and all that stuff, the crew couldn’t get the woman into a shelter and there wasn’t much they could do for her at that hour, but they knew they had to help. So the three of them took her to a hotel and paid for her room for the night, so she could rest and get out of the rain.

“We’ve never felt like this — all 3 of us unanimously felt compassion for this lady,” says Rodriguez. “She was very appreciative, she cried with us, she talked with us about personal things. It wasn’t just assistance, she also needed someone to talk to.”
