VIDEO: Storm Troopers Filming in the Lowcountry over the Weekend

Some beach-goers got a surprise over the weekend as Star Wars Storm Troopers were shooting a film on the beaches of Hunting Island State Park in South Carolina.

The fan film is called Odyssey: A Star Wars Story and is being directed by Mark Alex Vogt. Although the film was not apart of the next installment of the blockbuster saga, a fan film like this being shot in the Lowcountry is pretty cool. A group of students from the Savannah College of Art and Design raised around $14,000 for the film on Kickstarter

The Kickstarter shows off beautiful concept art which fits perfectly within the Lowcountry scenery. When raising money for the short film they posted saying "Our goal for this project is to show you the gritty and intense struggle that rebel squads faced in the years before the death star."

Some Star Wars fans visiting Hunting Island on Saturday got to experience the film first hand and shared their photos on social media. One fan posted their video on Facebook which currently has over 1000 shares.

Some online rumors speculated that these shoots were apart of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, but Lucasfilm has just finished the script for the next installment and wouldn't start filming until July

Some visitors of the state park got to take pictures with the Storm Troopers in between shooting and posted their pictures on Instagram.
