Brandon Blackstock, a talent manager and ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson has died. He was 48.

A representative for the family confirmed to People on Thursday (August 7) that Blackstock, who shares daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9, with the singer, had passed away following a private battle with cancer. He was also a dad to children Savannah and Seth, from a previous marriage, and grandfather to Savannah's son Lake.

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," the rep said in a statement. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Blackstock was also the former stepson of country star Reba McEntire, who was married to his father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.

Blackstock's death comes hours after Clarkson shared a statement noting that she was postponing the August dates of her Studio Sessions Las Vegas residency to be with her children amid his mysterious illness.

"While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them," she said, adding that she was appreciative of fans' "grace, kindness and understanding" as she navigates the personal matter.

Clarkson and Blackstock were married for seven years before she filed for divorce in 2020, finalizing the process two years later.
