Cardi B has dealt with a lot of rumors throughout her career, but she finally addressed one misconception that's been plaguing her for years.

On Wednesday, September 24, the Grammy Award-winning rapper appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she touched on a few hot topics, including her divorce from Offset and her deepest sexual fantasies. At one point in their discussion, host Alexandra Cooper asked Cardi about the ongoing rumor that she is an industry plant who was signed to replace other female acts like Nicki Minaj. Bardi didn't mention Minaj specifically, but she did say that sometimes "people didn't get along with each other."

"People have made this whole story that I came into the industry to, like, take over somebody's career, but I never thought that," Cardi explained. "I just wanted to become famous at what I like to do. Sometimes people just don't get along with each other."

The rumor began shortly after Cardi B broke through with her hit single "Bodak Yellow." Ye helped fuel the rumor after he claimed Bardi was strategically placed in the music industry to replace Nicki Minaj.

"Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati," Ye said in a video that was leaked in 2018. "She don't write her raps. She just there to sound as ignorant as possible and then make songs like, 'F**k them and get some money.' She has literally replaced Nicki Minaj, purposely that they put her there, and now she doesn't know what to do, and she has no idea what the f**k is going on. She thinks it's just a blessing from the universe. It ain't no blessing from the universe."

Cardi had never directly responded to Ye's claims. Instead, she shared a video from a past interview he did with Jason Lee on her X account. In the clip, Ye told Lee that he "always believed in her, since she was on the show, period." Nicki Minaj has yet to respond to the discourse. However, in the midst of Cardi's rampage against BIA and JT, the Pink Friday 2 rapper did announce her next album is dropping in March 2026, which could be an indication that a response is on the way. Nonetheless, Cardi isn't concerned about their beef or the rumors about her career.

"This is what I was destined for," she added. "I was destined to become this. No matter who signed me, no matter what, I was going to be famous and I was going to be a rapper."
