Actress Jenna Dewan shared a touching tribute to her fur baby, Meeka, on Wednesday (May 29), who passed away earlier this week. The Step Up alum took to Instagram to reveal that she lost her first pup after 18 beautiful years together, and that the tragic experience has been "completely surreal" for her.
"Yesterday I had to say one of the hardest goodbyes as my first baby, Meeka, crossed over the rainbow bridge 🕊️ I knew this day was coming and yet it still feels completely surreal to be writing this. Meeka- you and I have had more eras than TS. 18 years (!) of going through literally everything with me by my side."
Dewan also praised her fur baby for "showing her that she could become a mother" before her first pregnancy.
"You showed me I could become a mother, and then was by my side as I became one for the first time with Evie. And you never even liked kids 😂 You have been with me to locations all around the world and also sat by my side during a global pandemic quarantine postpartum with Callum. You were the queen diva, quietly ruling the house and I will never be able to express how much I will miss you."
The actress concluded the sweet tribute to Meeka by expressing her love, and doting on the dog's ability to always be there when she needed her, even in her final moments.
The heartbreaking tribute is accompanied by a series of photos that show Meeka by Dewan's side over the last couple of decades. The series also depicts Meeka comforting and lying beside Dewan's children, Everly, 10, whom she shares with ex-husband Channing Tatum, and Calum, 3, whom she shares with fiancé Steve Kazee.
