Kim Kardashian Shells Out $1.26M in SEC Crypto Settlement
Kim Kardashian has agreed to pay a $1.26M fine to settle civil charges that she failed to reveal she was paid to promote a particular crypto currency. In a June 13, 2021 Instagram post Kardashian wrote, “Are you guys into crypto? This is not financial advice but sharing what my friends told me about the ethereum max token!” She added different hashtags, including #ad, along with #emax and #disrupthistory, among others. The SEC said she had 225 million Instagram followers at the time of the post.
The SEC charged Kardashian with failure to disclose that she was paid $250,000 to publish her Instagram post touting EtherumMax. In addition to paying the fine, she agreed to cooperate with the SEC’s ongoing investigation. She also agreed to not promote any crypto securities for three years.
KK isn’t the first celebrity to pay an SEC fine for using their influence to push crypto currencies. In 2018 boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and music producer DJ Khaled each paid fines for pushing cryptos. Mayweather, who had been compensated $300,000, paid a bit more than $600,000 in penalties, while Khaled, who had been paid $50,000, was hit with penalties topping $150,000. And actor Steven Segal paid more than $300,000 in penalties for doing the same thing in 2020.
Oh, and if you're wondering what kind of hit Kim's taking to her net worth because of the fine? Her net worth is estimated at $1.8 billion according to Forbes. So a $1.26 million fine is the equivalent of a fine of less than $100 for a typical US family, according to estimates.

You about to miss out on a bad b---h or what?" The crowd at Madison Square Garden erupted into cheers as Lizzo pointed the phone toward them and laughed. "He looks mad as hell," she laughed.

Selena Gomez Launches "Wondermind"
Mental health - long something that was discussed in whispers, if at all - is fast becoming something celebs are focusing on. Last week we told you about Megan Thee Stallion's new mental wellness-centered website; on the heels of that, Selena Gomez has also made mental health and wellness the focal point of her new site - "Wondermind".
The media platform — which she runs alongside her mom Mandy Teefey and a group of licensed therapists — launched back in February with a newsletter with articles, interviews, and advice about mental health: readers saw Q&As with celebs (including Serena Williams, Rupi Kaur, Lana Condor, and of course, Gomez herself) and explainers on a variety of mental health conditions.
As of yesterday, the newly-relaunched site now includes all that plus the “Filter By Feels” tool, which suggests stories to read based on your current mood. For example, if you’re feeling lonely, it’ll serve up prompts about loneliness and tips on making long-distance friendships less awkward. Gomez, who has anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, has said, "Every person has their own mental health journey. If we ignore them, pretty them up or hide them from the world, it doesn’t change that they are very, very real.”
